Willamette Valley in bloom
It’s springtime in wine country! Buds are breaking, bottling lines are humming, rosé is flowing and now is your chance to taste new releases and old favorites from our region’s acclaimed wineries. It all culminates in Memorial Weekend festivities, when more than 130 wineries and tasting rooms open their doors each year for special events and tastings at one of wine country’s longest-running celebrations. Enjoy a vineyard picnic, live music, tasty food pairings and local art. Savor the world-class wines and spectacular views of springtime in the Willamette Valley.
MEMORIAL WEEKEND IN THE WINE COUNTRY
The next Memorial Weekend in the Wine Country will take place on May 25-27, 2019. The kickoff to tasting season is full of excitement. This is your chance to sample newly released white wines, rosés, and Pinot noir from the acclaimed 2017 vintage, sample 2018s in barrel and discover small producers not typically open to the public.
On Memorial Day we honor members of the military who lost their lives while serving. Look for the ✮ symbol indicating wineries offering a discount to veterans and current members of the armed forces.
What’s your drink of choice for a day on the mountain? Ours is Love, Oregon Rosé☀️❄️

The winter solstice, or Hibernal solstice, is upon us, with the earth’s tilt bringing the shortest period of daylight and (for many) the first official day of winter.
Revered as one of the oldest-known holidays in human history, Anthropologists believe winter solstice celebrations span more than 30,000 years.
Ancient peoples, fearing the shorter days meant the sun might go away forever, built huge bonfires to commemorate the winter solstice and to tempt the sun to return. The tradition of decorating our homes, trees, and wreaths with candles/lights at this time of year is passed down across cultures from those ancient bonfires.
The solstice of 2020 is taking the decorating tradition up a notch and bringing a vibrant planetary conjunction to the night sky.
Jupiter and Saturn, the two largest planets in our solar system, will have a close encounter of the celestial kind creating a bright blip of their own. Although they remain hundreds of millions of miles apart in space, from the Earth’s vantage point, the two planets will appear just one-tenth of a degree apart creating a special illumination in the sky.
How fitting it is that the day with the least amount of daylight and honored across civilizations with fires and light, provides extended evening viewing of a bright cosmic presence. A little something to keep us looking up in these final days of 2020. Sláinte!

Has your wine club membership ever been rewarded with a custom etched 3 liter bottle of wine? Last year we drove down to Carlton Oregon for the Ken Wright Cellars Ten Year Anniversary Party. Surprisingly, our membership was rewarded with this bottle of wine. 💥 For real!!! That is the equivalent of 4 bottles of wine. When the hubby first saw this, though, he was a little worried that it had his name on it instead of mine! 😂
Even though this year is a little different without big celebrations, we're so happy for the great memories. Today on the VinoSocial blog, I write about our experience as members. Read more via Linkin.bio and leave a comment about your fave wine club!

For more than a decade, the Willamette Valley Wineries Association has been honored to work with Portland-based artist John Fisher for original Memorial Weekend in Wine Country art.
John pairs his artistic vision with years of graphic design experience to create inspiring, sophisticated landscapes and figurative work. His landscapes have a definitive sense of place, allowing you to feel the emotion and mood of the day with his intuitive use of color and brushwork. The shifting force of weather has a profound impact on his work and ability to capture the soul of the Pacific Northwest landscape. John is an art director and designer in Portland, Oregon, originally hailing from Omaha, Nebraska. A graduate of the University of Kansas Fine Art program, he developed a passion for landscape painting while exploring the back roads and open plains of the Midwest. When not in the studio designing, he is likely to be roaming the countryside, capturing Northwest landscapes on canvas.
Throughout the spring season we’ll be featuring stories from throughout Wine Country.
May is Oregon Wine Month
