Open That Bottle Celebration at Dobbes Family Estate

Open That Bottle Celebration at Dobbes Family Estate @ Dobbes Family Estate | Dundee | Oregon | United States

February 23rd, 2019 is the annual Open That Bottle Night! The brainchild of former Wall Street Journal wine columnists Dorothy Gaiter and John Brecher in 1999, this is the day to enjoy that special bottle that you’ve been holding on to for years. Why wait for a graduation, anniversary, birthday or promotion – just open that bottle and enjoy!

Don’t have a bottle you’ve been saving? For the second year in a row, Dobbes is here to help with current vintage pricing on all library wines. Visit our tasting room and take one home – you can pretend you’ve been holding on to it for years, we won’t tell!

Seatings at 12 pm & 3 pm

Explore the two most prized Italian grape varietals in an exclusive seated tasting experience. Our Black Label, Conti di Val Seriana, represents the opportunity for Owner/Winemaker, Alfredo Apolloni to produce wines which are a direct reflection of his Italian family winemaking tradition.  Fruit for this label is sourced from premier properties in eastern Washington.

This double vertical will showcase our Ciel du Cheval Sangiovese and Klipsun Nebbiolo, pulling out library vintages from 2010 to 2012. These vineyards reside in the Red Mountain AVA which boasts the warmest growing seasons in the Pacific Northwest. These concentrated wines have rich, deep flavors and merit from aging. This is a rare opportunity to compare some exceptional versions of these classic Italian varietals.

$45 per person includes 6 wines and personal charcuterie board (15% discount for club members)

Limited seating, Reservations required. Seats are non-refundable.  They are fully transferrable to another person.

Brooks 101: See, Smell, Sip

Brooks 101: See, Smell, Sip @ Brooks Winery | Amity | Oregon | United States

Do you ever feel intimidated by wine? Whether it’s ordering at a restaurant, going to a Tasting Room, or drinking with “wine knowledgeable” friends, for some reason we can all get a little worried. At Brooks, we hate hearing things like that. Wine is supposed to be fun. Wine is supposed to relieve stress, not cause it. We’re here to help with our new Wine 101 Class: See, Smell, Sip. In this fun, engaging, and LOW STRESS environment, Lauren will guide you through wine tasting basics broken down into SEE, SMELL, & SIP.

With this bedrock of information, you will be given two red wines and two white wines as you explore four key wine concepts, ACID, FRUIT, SWEETNESS, & TANNIN, comparing these components with foods that you already know (for example, lemon and acid). With your brain full of intimidation-crushing knowledge, you will revel in a veritable playground of smells and tastes as Lauren will lay the table with everything from rocks and soil to herbs, spices, and fruits. You can then smell, taste and compare, leaving the tasting with scent and flavor memories that will carry over to every wine you drink in the future.

Wine Education Series (2 of 4), Pinot Noir Comparison at Bjornson @ Bjornson Vineyard | Salem | Oregon | United States

Sommelier Jade Helm will guide us through an exploration of both Old & New World Pinot noir.

After a fifteen year career in sales and public relations, Jade Helm took a year to explore wine and dance. This year changed her life. She delved into wine study and eventually earned credentials from the Society of Wine Educators (Certified Specialist in Wine), the Wine and Spirits Education Trust (Diploma in Wine and Spirits), and Court of Master Sommeliers (Certified Sommelier). For the past five years Jade has provided wine education through writing for consumer and trade oriented wine publications, speaking engagements, and direct classroom instruction at Chemeketa Community College’s Northwest Wine Studies Program.

She combines firsthand knowledge of wine regions and extensive study of terroir to enrich her curriculum. She is also the primary author of Tasting Pour, a blog about wine, cocktails, food and travel. As a board member of the Travel and Words Conference she works with travel writers nationwide. When Jade is not tasting, teaching, traveling, writing or judging wine competitions, she is probably sleeping.
