Winderlea Vineyard & Winery
Winderlea Vineyard & Winery is a boutique winery specializing in the limited production of Pinot noir and Chardonnay from Oregon. Transplanted Bostonians, Bill Sweat and Donna Morris founded Winderlea in 2006 with the purchase of the renowned Goldschmidt Vineyard in the Dundee Hills. The earliest plantings on Winderlea's 20 acre estate vineyard date back to 1974 and include Pommard, Wadenswil and the Coury clones. Their estate vineyard was always farmed gently and with Bill and Donna's purchase in 2006 they introduced more sustainable practices allowing the vineyard to earn its LIVE and Salmon Safe certifications in 2008, a year in which they started to farm organically. In 2009 they began employing biodynamic practices. In addition to their estate wines, Winderlea makes wines with fruit from some of their neighbors in the legendary Dundee Hills including the Maresh, Weber, Juliard and Murto Vineyards. In 2010 they started to purchase fruit from outside of the Dundee Hills from the likes of Shea, Meredith Mitchell and Crawford Beck Vineyards. In 2014, Winderlea took out a 10 year lease on Meredith Mitchell Vineyard and is now managing the property and implementing Biodynamic farming techniques. Additionally, Bryan Creek Vineyard in the Chehalem Mountains was added to their impressive portfolio of single-vineyard designate wines. The onetime Bostonians now call Dundee, Oregon their home and are committed to continuing the traditions of responsible stewardship of the land and the highest quality artisan winemaking.
In addition to their regular tasting hours, Winderlea offers a three course luncheon on Fridays at 11am from July through September. Lunches include a tour of the vineyard and feature a library wine that is exclusively available the day of the lunch. $60 per person by advance reservation only. Please see their website for details and availability.
Winderlea's tasting fee is $20 and is donated toward an annual contribution the winery makes to iSalud!, the organization that provides healthcare services to Oregon's vineyard workers and their families.
